The complete free embouchure workshop (From Hello Trumpet).
Embouchure is defined as the way the lips and tongue are applied to a woodwind or brass instrument. Developing your embouchure is part of learning how to play an instrument and sustaining good musicality. The characteristics of a good embouchure are control, tone, endurance and range. Read the suggestions below to learn how to develop embouchure on a trumpet.
It is remarkable to see that the trumpet can be controlled to such an extent as to produce the variety of music that it does when the player's only contact with it is with his lips and his left hand. It has helped me to bear this in mind because it suggests that any adjustments to improve embouchure would probably be physically very small, and subtle. To stay focused, we also note in passing that our efforts toward improvement are, in most cases, not related to the requirements of the music that is to be performed. In fact, it may be argued that altissimo playing, for example, represents more of an athleticism and a projection of power, than music as we normally think of it. I would tend to agree somewhat with this and would guess that there is not a significant segment of the earth's civilized population that would enjoy hearing much more than one triple C. It is helpful then to note this distinction when we consider our goals so that arguments, for example, that "high range (endurance, or flexibility) isn't everything", will have no place in this discussion. We are not doing anything musical here. We are instead simply trying to develop a physical methodology to achieve the well defined ends of increased range, flexibility and endurance. And because of this, suggested embouchure improvement techniques will be accompanied by physical rationale and not obscured by extraneous musical preferences. To this end we proceed as follows.

Vielen Dank von Amerika!
Thanks, these videoes be the most helpful ive seen
Wow! from this to The Hat. awesome. I love the episode on the Adams factory tour with Teus and Christian
I'm also 73 and picking up the cornet. 1st video saved my endevor. Now I have a suggestion for new learners looking to limit horrid trumpet sounds. Use only the mouthpiece to practice your lips. Much quieter (and wifie stays home!)
I am impressed! I've never played in instrument (73yo). ALMOST gave up & sell my cornet. You guys guided me to do it right. I am "saved!" Now to practice and watch vid 2... Thank you😊
Excelente! gracias and greetings from Bolivia. 🇧🇴!
Put a benzo in your mouth
Great
Excellent! Esp. the info on forming the lips. Forgot all that. Played 1st trumpet in H.S. but that was almost 60 years ago. Haven't touched one since. But I am interested in picking it up again - with your help! Looking forward to your other videos.
What size mouth piece should a beginner start with?
what is this book? where is it? how do we get it?
Best introductory lesson in trumpet I came across so far, especially on making a sound.
Great lesson!
Thank you guys. Totally brilliant. Okay. I'll buy a trumpet tomorrow. Might get one of those small ones so's I can take it in the car, practice there sometimes. No reason why not? Very interested in what you say about the sax. Can you say more? Can you give advice on that aspect of the sax - blow soft? I never see any vids talking about that, beginner or not. I came from (poor part time amateur) clarinet to the tenor and got along with it alright - many fights with getting the low C - and blowing quite a bit. Noisy. Videos, forums, told me 'it is a noisy instrument' make a noise. so I went with it. Then I recently got an alto. Surprised the hell out of me how easy it was to blow. Made me wonder if my tenor has a leak or something somewhere. Or if the mouthpiece/reed thing is a problem. Still don't know about that. But the thing is I was kinda forced by the ease of that alto blow to cool it a bit, calm down, blow softer. And I've begun to see that as you say the sax is a soft, quiet instrument. To my amazement. BUT: I don't really know how to go about it. LIke it must say something about choosing reeds and mouthpieces maybe? I don't know. But you guys seem to know something. I would love to hear it. And thanks again for a great vid. :) woops.... 9 years ago. Not going to get any replies now are we? Not from them. Their avatar links to a site that hasn't seen any updates for eight years, too. Ah well....
Great content Teus. What trumpet make/model is your buddy learning on please?
Spreek je nederlands?
I've been teaching my 10 yr. old Grand-son to play trumpet - long distance via ZOOM. I started playing when I was 11, myself. Today, on his first day of 5th grade, as we watched your video here and talked about blowing techniques... and listening to your instruction, blow air first and narrow the space in your lips - I'm excited to say he was able to play a C-D-E !!!! I'm very proud of him and he is excited to be playing 3 notes finally!! Yea! Thanks for this video!

Add auto-captioning please.
Wow, what a great lesson thank you. I'm so excited to begin...( I'm a jazz guitarist..) Where can I buy your books?? Pearse

I'm just learning the trumpet I feel like I'm with two friends in the room helping me out THX
Just bought a KING 600 with 7c mouthpiece and case(circa 1975 according to the serial#) today at a yard sale for 20 bucks. All 3 valves operate smoothly and return quickly. All slides move freely. Very little lacquer wear and one tiny ding. I haven't picked up a brass instrument since high school ( I am 59 yrs old)but I was playing a C Major (B flat Concert) scale immediately. Enjoy playing everyone.
Yesterday I bought my trumpet and also I am seeing this video …and learning so much from you both thank you ones again jems god bless you both…
Hi jems now a days I am playing alto saxophone and I remember 1 January 2018 I started saxophone.because of you it could happened I saw you chromatic scale on alto saxophone and I started..in 4 years I am playing now with professional players on stage thanks brother thanks UA-cam….
Hi guys! Thanks for the video!🙏🏾😑🇧🇴 Greetings!
Hi, nice to know that you explain trompet too, besides saxophone and showing lessons! Thanks!
Best video I’ve found so far for a beginner! How many hours do you recommend to practice per week?
Thank you so much. Great tutorial.
6:53 Here.
Oh, I see. I have been blowing in the wrong end ! Pressing valves does not change my tone. What is wrong with them ?
Isn't the most important thing with the trumpet to have a muscular upper lip ? No matter how good the breath control is,if you haven;t any upper lip muscularity you will have no tone and no range.
I only have my right arm. I love it, I am not a professional. After 20 year at age 68, decided to start again from 0.
Don't play with one hand? I only have my right hand. I am 68 yo love music and I love challenges. I played trumpet when I was young. I just bought a used trumpet two days ago and started to practice, but please don't tell me not to play with one hand. That is all I have.

@@mf_nano After losing my left arm in the conflict in Angola, Africa 1976, that RIP doesn't apply to people like me. I was born a warrior not a chicken shit. I am improving little by little. I do what makes me feel good. No to please anyone but myself. I didn't know why you came up with that "S" of RIP?

Wow, this was the absolute best video explanation for beginners. I just started trumpet and have consumed a lot of UA-cam content to try to get myself up to speed. The explanation of how the trumpet works was the base foundation I’ve been looking for. It also really helped to know that you can get started without buzzing. I’ve been working at it but have been really struggling. After your video, I was able to get a clear tone without much trouble. Thank you so much for this!
Its a lot better if you put your pinky on top of the pinky ring because it makes it so much easier to use the valves
Thank you sir.
How do l have a good song ?
Romans 10:9 Because, if you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.
That old Constellation sounds great. Old used horns are a better value. I really enjoy your playing
I just ordered a Bach Tr500 new demo for $449.I used to play a old Bach Strat in HS. I’m 68 years old now. Don’t buy Chinese. You can upgrade the quality by buying a used one too. 7 c is a good start
Poor neighbors. I’m 68 and picking up trumpet again after 40 years.

I LOVE this!! Thank you! I bought a Nuvo JHorn today and my lips felt scrubbed...going to trade it in for a trumpet and watch your videos!! Thank you!
